Ramgarhia Sports Tournament

Saturday 20th August and Sunday 21 August

at Brunel University.

The Ramgarhia tournament is of the longest running community tournaments in London, with the aim of encouraging spotsmanship and fair play.

We will be hosting competitions in Hockey, Football, Badminton, Squash,Cricket and Karate.

Karate Championship 2011

Kata	10:30am
Kumite	12:30pm

KATA:

Kata competition for all white/red belts will be one round to determine 1st, 2nd
& 3rd places.

For all yellow/purple & white belts there will be two rounds where the top 50%
will perform a second different kata and the accumulated scores will determine
1st,2nd & 3rd places. For all senior grades there will be three rounds
where the top 50% will perform a second different kata and the top three
contestants will perform a third different kata. The scores for each round will
be accumulated to determine 1st,2nd & 3rd places.

In the event of a draw the scores from the previous round/s will be considered.

KUMITE:

WKF based rules for kumite. Bouts will be 1½ minutes in duration for junior grades and 2 minutes for senior grades. Referees
decisions will be final. Trophies will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and joint 3rd places. Gum shields and red/blue gloves are compulsory. Groin guards and shin pads are optional. Women body shields are recommended.

For all under 16 events light contact to the body will be permitted, no face
contact with punches will be scored, and excessive contact to either area will
be penalised. Touch contact will be scored for good technical kicks to the
jodan area. For all over 16 events light contact with both punches and kicks
will be permitted.

Note for parents of children
under 16, if you do not wish your child to be included in photographs for the website please advise.

How it all began…

The Ramgarhia Sports Club (RSC) came into being around 1974 when certain members of the community with interests in sports and games agreed to offer their free time and experience to train and develop the younger members of the community in sports like hockey and karate.

Considerable interest was shown by the young generation and within a short time the coaching sessions and classes in sports ran to full capacity, and the need to deploy additional staff became necessary. Scheduling of the coaching sessions on a weekly basis was the only way available to contain the enthusiasm of the young participants, some of whom came from places as far away as Harrow, Greenford, Wembley, Hayes, Uxbridge, Hanwell, Ealing, Brentford and even Watford in Hertfordshire.

In the absence of adequate facilities, newer facilities to accommodate for the rising membership became e a paramount objective. As a consequence various locations had to be found where indoor training and sports could be undertaken.

This brought its own problems for RSC’s management as Cricket, Table Tennis, Badminton and Squash sporting events were added to the already oversubscribed and very popular interest in Hockey and Karate.

Hiring of halls and other sports complexes became a necessity and stretched our financial resources since hire charges were astronomically high, and regular block booking was not always feasible. Occasions had it that training sessions were disrupted and it also resulted in the Club loosing some of its top players and sports men and women.

In spite of such difficulties RSC’s management has zealously continued to build its blocks of success and also takes pride in the organisation and control of an annual sports tournament since 1979 where sports men and women avail the opportunity of competing in specific events like Badminton, Table Tennis, Karate, Hockey and Squash, and participation in these events to the U.K National Standard (See Sections Below).

RSC’s management believe that the community at large has greatly benefited from its services and has embarked upon a scheme whereby all the above sports activities could be provided for at one location and through the provision of Sporting and Social events greater harmony and understanding can be fostered within the multi-racial constituencies around Southall.

Having established in various sporting activities it was but natural to have a tournament . The first such tournament was held in 1979 at the Hayes Stadium in Judge Heath Lane, Hayes. The success of this tournament prompted it to become an annual event.

It attracts participation from many Sports Clubs and sporting individuals from all over the country and clubs from London, Walsall, Birmingham, Brighton, Leeds etc make it a must to attend.

At the tournament the sporting events Karate, Hockey, Badminton, Football, Cricket and Squash are open to all. Personalities and dignitaries of the sporting world have attended this tournament and commended us in its organisation and control.
